Fast, works, no complaints, would buy again
Installation was (as with all laptops) painfully tedious, but nothing went wrong. Just slotted it in and reassembled, graphics drivers auto-installed by Windows, everything just worked with no BIOS fiddling. No problems with temperature or instability. Gave my older laptop some more life as a dev machine. Also, gaming is almost twice as fast as with the old 3300M.

M1400: The cheap tablet PC as e-reader
This is by far my favorite out-of-the-box computer. It is nicely weighted, has a bright screen with very wide viewing angles, decent battery life (if a bit short), excellent software tools, I can go on and on about how much I love it! I've been searching for an alternative to either buying an e-reader, netbook, or an iPad for reading books, and a Popular Science DIY article pointed out that cheaper tablet PCs are an excellent and underrated choice. I picked the M1400 out of the options listed, and was not at all disappointed.
The M1400 runs Windows XP Tablet Edition, and can also run Ubuntu 10.04 without a keyboard (though it needs one for the installation process). It is relatively slow compared to today's tablets, but that is fine, since it is not intended to be speed-demony. It has a plenty-roomy hard drive for all the e-books you can stuff in there, and can also last through an entire movie (though it must be ripped, since there is no CD drive). Also, the sound is rather lackluster in volume, and there are apparently some problems with insufficient EM shielding, as there are loud whines/crackles when you plug in headphones, or if you have them in while booting/shutting down the computer. There are plenty of ports, though if I could change it, I personally would rather have another USB instead of the phone jack/modem. The docking station for the M1400 rocks, and you get that extra USB, as well as a few extras.
I think that for its age and shortcomings, the M1400 has stood the test of time as a solid, well-rounded, fully-featured tablet whose large, bright screen makes it a beautiful e-reader and portable media station. Five stars, for standing out, even from modern tablets, and for making my e-reading life so much better.
