Disney mastery - excellent for kids of all ages!
The film is superb, and is generally a good DVD version. The picture is not as sharp as some recent DVD "classic" releases, but much, much better than VHS.
The tale is a classic, and is well told. Even my cynical heart is moved by it. It's timeless, and the only hint it's old comes when the boys smoke cigars as part of their excess partying - such wanton risky behaviour would never appear in the pc world we live in today! ;-)
There's the typical beautiful Disney animation here, and you can tell that someone's started experimenting with how far they can push animation when you start watching shadows, reflections in spherical mirrors and refraction effects: it's subtle, but incredibly well done!
The one extra that my 4 year old son loves is the finding Jiminy game. Bit disappointing that that's the only game on there, but it's good all the same.
Highly recommended for family viewing!
My advice would be to be careful who you buy from, particularly if you buy from the states. I bought "new sealed" version from the states which was a poor quality copy - the cover was poor, the disk itself was poor (and region free, and unprotected which sort of gives the game away). The genuine article has a hologram on the sleeve, and comes on a good quality disk that's region protected and encoded with CSS so you can't just copy it without extra software.

Retro brilliance
If you want a decent retro dot matrix printer with great compatibility then the Panasonic range are a good bet.

A great interactive fiction guide and history
Growing up in the 80s with a computer, I came to love interactive fiction particularly from Infocom and Magnetic Scrolls. Despite the utter lack of modern commercial titles, Interactive Fiction is alive and well and indeed it could be argued is in a ruder state of health than it ever has been.
Nick Montford's book is a unique history and treatment of IF. Comparisons to other literary forms are made, which I must admit were enlightening to me, and the past, present and future of IF is covered nicely. infocom is covered extensively perhaps at the expense of others (the work of Magnetic Scrolls, in particular, deserves more coverage if I were writing the book)
Despite being a potentially dry subject, Nick writes with humour, an easy style and obvious enthusiasm meaning the book is very accessible and moreover enjoyable to read.
If you're interested in IF, either as an experienced player, or a complete newcomer, and have even a little interest in literature on the whole (my interest is tiny: I read books and that's as far as it goes - it's enough), I'd wholeheartedly recommend this book.
