When you need a seal you need it
the correct seal for the application

Right part for right purpose.
This seal is used in multiple places on the old OMC johnson/evinrude. overtime the seal just flattens out. To restore the seal capabilities you just buy this stuff and glue it in place with #m seal adhesive.

The correct Temp Switch.
Whenever you can always go with an OEm part. They seem to be the only ones to work as intended. even if the part is 40 years old they'll often still work as in this case.
