Less than stellar
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich Some older radios are highly prized for excellence in design and quality of build, like most any Collins model. Some radios are valued for their utility and overall performance per dollar, such as many Sangean units. Others are prized because they incorporated some significant design breakthrough, such as the Barlow-Wadley loop circuit.
Unfortunately, this radio is none of the above. I would guess that it met the design objectives and GE turned in the lowest bid.
Bottom line: If you are looking for a really good performing radio with retro style, keep looking.

good things come in small packages
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich This small box may be the answer to a good portable antenna system for qrpers or campers. Mine takes up minimal space in the go-kit, and makes a 44' wire play pretty much like a base station antenna. Some lengths are super easy to tune, a tuner is not even needed on 80 or 20 if the wire end can be up in the air a bit. My qrp qso rate is higher with this system than with my old vertical system, and I'm convinced this is the way to go. Particularly at this price, you can't lose.

diamond in the rough
This is a very high gain RF amplifier, it really needs a gain control. Fortunately, there is room in the case to add it. It would be even better with a built in on-off switch. Nonetheless, it's great for small home built radios and even older commercial shortwave receivers. A bit pricey, but still recommended.
