Speakers to Last a Lifetime!
6 von 6 finden das hilfreich I first heard a pair of Dahlquist DQ-10 speakers in the spring of 1979 in Raleigh, N.C. completely by accident. I was visiting a friend who had just moved into an old converted radio station. The first thing I noticed as I entered the room were two huge black "screens" sitting atop two old milk crates! After closer inspection these screens turned-out to be the most unique-looking speakers I had ever seen.Then my friend proceeded to play the speakers and I was an instant convert! I had never heard such clarity, purity of sound, not to mention the incredible imaging. I immediately located a dealer in Chapel Hill who sold DQ-10s and 33 years later they are still my speaker of choice. Like everything in life, time takes its toll so in 2006 I shipped my DQs to a company whose technicians worked with the Dahlquist company in the 1970s & 1980s. They did a complete refurbishment on the speakers and when returned they sounded better than ever! From 1980 until around 2005, I powered the speakers with a Phase Linear 400w amp and a Carver C4000 "Holographic" preamp. As others have pointed out, the more power the better the DQs sound. The Phase Linear eventually died and I replaced it with a Rotel RB-1080 amp which is 200w perchannel. I think it complements the speakers well but not quite as well as the Phase Linear. Incredibly, my Carver C4000 still operates and the holographic effect makes the imaging of the Dahlquist even more impressive. I'm not a technician nor am I a member of the "Golden Ears" group, but I will say that after years of hearing various "high-end" speakers from Magnepans to Martin Logan to the legendary British Quads, I'm more than content to hold on to my DQ-10s. Yes, they are large and they are power-hungry but the sound that emanates from these speakers more than compensates. Not to mention the beauty of their design which emulates the British Quad but to my eyes is more attractive. In conclusion, anyone who is lucky enough to snag a pair of these legendary speakers in proper operating order has many hours of incredible listening pleasure ahead of them. I think I'll power my pair up right now!

Gaudier-Brzeska's "Dog"
Good quality reproduction of one of Gaudier-Brzeska's more famous works. Now if someone will follow suit with his "Bird Swallowing Fish" sculptor!
