Good paint but doesn't match J3 Hai-iro Gray.
I would recommend this color for IJN J3 Hai-iro Gray but it doesn't match the real J3. J3 was the lower surface color of most IJN aircraft from early 1943 to 1945 over D1 IJN Dark Green Black (XF-11) or D2 IJN Green Black (XF-70). This is not the fault of the seller but the manufacturer Tamiya. The problem is that Tamiya makes "J3" in acrylic (XF-12), enamel (XF-12), lacquer (LP-32) and lacquer spray (AS-2); however, the latter two LP-32 and AS-2, do not match each other or the real J3. Despite this inconsistency, XF-12 in acrylic and enamel match each other and the real J3. If you want accuracy, you can purchase either hobby paint depending on your preference for acrylic or enamel hobby or you may purchase J3 from another hobby paint manufacturer such as Mission Models (acrylic) or AK Interactive (acrylic or lacquer). The real question is how accurate do you want to make your model? I would suggest you check out the Aviation of Japan website for a discussion on J3 and other IJN paint colors like J3 SP (J3 Special Paint-used on early war Japanese Zero Sen's, D1, D2, and colors associated with the propeller colors, anti-glare blue-black, aotake, IFF wing strips (ID Yellow), Mitsubishi Interior Green and Nakajima Interior Green.
