Atari's Temple of Elemental Evil - Retro PC gaming
I consider anything older than about a decade "retro" though purists may disagree.
I am enjoying this game, though I am not greatly impressed. This is no doubt the result of playing NWN & NWN2 for over a decade. They are in every way superior.
However, it is a good, "low intensity" game and is well done, for its era. I gave it a "yes" on all of the categories (graphics, game play and value) because I appreciate it for being faithful to the D&D 3.5 rules, for the most part. Also the graphics, while not exciting, are smooth and non-glitchy, at least so far.
By far the least enjoyable aspect is the user interface, which I find a bit clumsy. The inability to rotate the viewpoint as one can do in more advanced 3D engines like NWN's is annoying.
Set up is fairly involved, requiring a significant amount of patching to get a working game. This process is detailed elsewhere so I won't go into it here.
I am running it on what would have been moderately high-end hardware at the time it was released, an Intel DP35DP motherboard with an Intel Core Quad, 4GB of RAM with an nVidia GT 8600 XT video card. It is running Win XP for that full on "retro" feel. I have not tried it yet under Win7 or higher, nor Wine under Linux.
