Vintage Boss DS-1 Distortion Pedal Japan Black Label 1984 EXCELLENT!
    30. Dez 2015
    More Veristile Than Expected.
Great for the obvious ie; filthy fuzz and hulking crunch. Can get some pretty interesting mild rock sounds as well, while most will buy this for thrashing out dirty power chords and scale runs it is capable of some diverse flavours. I bought the original 80s black label Japanese version myself (circa 1984). I cant really comment on what a modern DS-1 is like, this is the only DS-1 I've used, but its knobs are extremely precise and buttery smooth and feel solid. The click is satisfyingly firm and the whole pedal just feels like a Boss product, built like a tank. While now days there's no shortage of distortion pedals to choose from the DS-1 is a classic, which is going to be its best selling point for some and its worse for others.

The Road by CORMAC MCCARTHY - 2010 Medium PB 9780330513005 Pan Books
    30. Dez 2015
About More Than The Sum Of Its Parts.
This book is in a sense about a journey, but its meat lies between its movements and actions. The best part of this book is the sense of gravity given to the loss of the human condition. The odd moments of quintessential parental love mixed with the hulking dread of imminent danger, those moments are the highlight of this book and they are heart-breakingly genuine. For anyone thats read this and is just curious as to the thoughts of others; think about that coke can moment. I read somewhere McCarthy was inspired to write this book when he was on a father son trip with his then young son, and had wondered what it would be like to be put into this kind of world with a child. The notion of what would you do. Not being a parent myself I can only imagine how emotionally touching a read this could be for someone who is. Maybe too emotionally raw for some. It reminds me a lot of what you could guess Coppola's Apocalypse Now could have been had it stuck to the more dreamy poetic prose of Conrad's original delivery. Much like Heart Of Darkness, this is a book I'm sure people will be discovering for the first time long after we are both long gone.
