Wish there were more by this author as it is such great source material.
I have just started painting and will use this book as reference for scenes of mid nineteenth century locomotives. Excellent book in great condition. Shows different types of Lady's clothing from 1830's through the 1870's

Thomas Cole Artist as Architect
One of my favorite artist had a desire to be architect. Many of his paintings explore the built environment. He excelled at castles and classical buildings in his art. His desire to build was only realised in his studio, as all his other plans were thwarted by more experienced architects as in the Ohio State Capitol building competition or financially as in the unrealized villa. Definitely an interesting facet in the career of an excellent artist.
