Uplifting but a little bit like afterschool special.
Former teen heart throb, current acting lecturer Robby Benson as Billy Mills, the American Indian track runner and Olympic star. Some conflict and knuckleheaded prodding by his University of Kansas coach, played by the late Pat Hingle. Somewhere between the edgy theatre release in 1983 I saw and the PG-rated 2004 DVD version I just watched, some scenes have been cut. Probably an ideal film for your budding long-distance or cross-country family star to see, if not exactly the same film you remember from the early 1980s.

A great resourse for early post WWII Fords
A quick review of the Nifty Fifties book that I received last night. It actually starts with 1946 and ends with 1959, just fullsize Fords, not Thunderbirds, not trucks. They've made an attempt to keep out any non-original modifications. Lots of black & white photos of every model, complete cars and also closeups of trim inside and out. Each chapter- separated by model year-starts with what was new that year and what was not carried over. Whether complete car photos or smaller bits or accessories, the photos are of used cars, for the most part not factory photos or period advertising, taken in the mid-1970s. Usually the last page of each chapter shows production numbers by model and motor for that year. Separate pages for photos of factory hubcaps and wheel trim, promotional models, and factory accessories. As posted before, this book is out of print but still available used through eBay. If you're looking for information about Thunderbird, Falcon, or Mustang, the author Ray Miller has published separate books specifically for these models. Just search eBay 'books', 'Ray Miller', and the model car that you're interested in.
