Schurter 6 Way distribution block - UK mains plug to 6 IEC C14 sockets.
This is a very compact unit that uses good quality C14 sockets. The housing is tough, and has 4 hidden holes that allow you to screw the unit down. It is not very heavy, so if you are plugging in heavy gauge cables, you might want to screw it down.
The good points:
- The sockets provide a tight fit.
- compact tough housing
- good quality sockets.
- it is difficult to open & tamper with the unit, as it uses difficult to recognise Tri-Wing screws.
- space saving distribution block from a respected Brand.
The bad points:
- The AC mains cable is not screened, so it may pick up interference (to be fair not many distribution boxes use screened cable, but it would be so easy to add).
- the unit is very well built, but a little lightweight (but you can screw it down).
- The main housing is tough grade plastic, but offers no protect against interference.
How it could be improved (if you were a qualified electrician, OR if Schurter decided that they wanted to improve the next revision of this product):
- Change the cable to a screened cable, and on the UK plug socket side connect the screening braid to earth.
- The main housing could do with some aluminium or copper foil tape to help screen against interference (this really should be in Schurter's next revision of this product, if they redesign it).
- Large Sorbothane (rubber) feet could be added to the base, to help stop it moving around & to help with dampening.
- The internal wiring could be improved with better insulated wire.
- The housing could do with some weight added to the base.
Overall this is a good product, that is well made, but the design could be improved upon.
