Terrible directions

There are line after line of straight stitches close together on the water and sky. The directions were of little help in differentiating the colors as it is nearly impossible to count the lines on the directions and fabric. Symbols on the fabric did not coincide with symbols on the directions. I finally just looked at the picture and free handed the colors the best I could. I am not sure how the directions could be improved. This would not be a project for a beginner. The tree is stunning. The boat has good detail. The finished product is quite beautiful.
