Full of stupidity by director
6 von 7 finden das hilfreich I am a former ocean racer. I can tell you 15 mistakes and impossibilities in this movie. Dumb mistakes. He ties the bowline wrong. The resulting knot cannot have been tied using the steps he used. He doesn’t know what a life jacket is. He shaves and drinks whiskey instead of getting prepared. He magically makes a Mayday call tho the radio has no antenna. His call is a bad joke. He never says “mayday” and does not give his position, even as a guess. If he doesn’t yet know how to use his sextant, how in blazes does he know where is is? He’s crossing the Indian Ocean alone with no way of knowing where he is? Beyond stupid. He holds the sextant upside down and fixes his position by an afternoon (impossible) site and magically finds longitude without the tables. The chart has “Approach to Sumatra Strait” tho we were told at the first shot in the movie that he’s 1700nm away. And it’s the Sundra Strait; there is no Sumatra Strait. And that Strait is not in the direction indicated on the chart. Nor is the direction of Madagascar on the chart correct; it’s off by 90 degrees. On and on. The dumb movie makers could have done this correctly but they think the audience is dumb, too. And they made money being right about that, though not about anything else. Unwatchable. If you know anything about sailing.

Good diagrams. Good for review.
Other books have more scholarly, and deep, texts but this one is great for what it is... a quick start and a quick review.
The two "decision tree" diagrams are worth the price; the book ought have more. Text is clear and "1 minute". The text goes rule by rule without much help in how they interact. The lights and shapes images seem straight out of the Coast Guard book. I'd also downgrade it some for the "back of the book" large number of pages dedicated to citing every line of demarcation... a waste of paper. I'll razor those out.

fell apart when package opened... not safe
The white wire fell onto the floor as I opened the package. cheap thin wire and bad solder job. This is sold as a "masthead light" which is a coast guard required safety (navigation) light. They ought be fully dependable. This is unsafe junk.
