Fascinating read
I am thoroughly enjoying reading about so many interesting details of how the Girl Guides contributed to the war effort and morale in both world wars. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes discovering lesser known areas of recent history and those interested in real practical Guiding and the difference it made.

Still funny after all these years
Tom Lehrer's comic songs still make me laugh 35 years after I first heard them and almost 60 years after he first performed them. Brilliant!

Unputdownable - took you back in time
I read this book in a couple of sittings. Having seen the film and found out about the novella online I was keen to read the original story, which drew me in more quickly than the film.
On balance I preferred the film because I loved the way the story in the book had been adapted and extended for the film. I now wish I had recorded the film, so I'll be getting it on DVD instead.
