Since the downfall of independant local business due to mégastores and online shopping, and the death of the music industry and record shops as we knew them, the only way to find stuff to my own very un-common and non-mass-appeal tastes is alas throu

Roland AIRA TB-3 Touch Bassline TB Style Bass Synthesizer
07. Jun 2016
TB 303 replacement
Although the "acid" tweekers' sound may have been "passe" for a few decades now in place of slick compressed digital audio, some old school techno heads (read: pre-so-called "house") may still wish to re-create and explore the whole "acid 303" sound. The original long discontinued TB 303 is now near impossible to afford (just look up the usual asking prices for second-third-fourth hand models) the Aira sub-label of Roland decided to bring us the logical "Next Gen" version in their TB-3 model. Replacing the somewhat awkward buttons which served as a keyboard on the original 303 with a "touchpad" (modern cell phones and tablets and the ilk), the best part of the TB3 remains in the inclusion of some actual buttons (knobs!) enabling real time modulation of the sounds. Anyone who knows the TB3 needs to explanation so let me just leave it at that: A greatand (finally) afforable replacement for the 303 with new features and USB/MIDI capabilities which makes this one's Learning curve quite easy.

Pan Sonic - Kesto [4xCDs, 2004 Blast First] VERY GOOD + COMPLETE
19. Jan 2017
An absolute must-have for Pan(a)sonic fans
I've been a fan of this band since the Osasto EP. I was one of the handful of Lucky ones who got to purchase this 4-disc set when a half dozen (only) came into the country. It's hefty original price was well worth it, though. Instead of releasing a retrospective box set as most bands would tend to do at the point of Panasonic's history of the time, they decided to release a four-disc set of 100% new material, each disc focusing principally more on one aspect of their styles/genres. Disc 1: Is the grittier, noisier, heavier beat-oriented side, which should help test your hi-fi sound reproduction system to its fullest. Very difficult to listen at high volume! Disc 2: Is like a toned-down version of the first disc; more rhythm-oriented pieces but with less noise and abrassiveness, and some slight abstract moments and pieces. Disc 3: Is their ambient/soundcaping abstract side, featuring some field recordings and sound manipulations. Drones and tones and textures... Disc 4: Is a 55-minute piece which is essentially Panasonic going total ambient drone: a singular drone sample is repeated throughout with minimal processing and slight sound variations. Hypnotic and strangely relaxing! No Panasonic fan should be without this release as it features some of their best material, and is perhaps their most "complete" release (hard not to be when you have four full discs to explore your sounds!).
Demolition Man / Over the Top / Tango & Cash [New Blu-ray]

Good value package
Currently the only way to get a widescreen anamorphic version of "Tango & Cash", aside from other Region coded Blurays. This package is basically a "bare bones" assemblage of each film in their "original" Bluray release. Plus it never hurts to add the highly mis-received "Demolition Man" to the deal, making this package quite well worth the money, if you are a fan of 2 out of the 3 films.
