The title indicate a very special period for artist in Paris- an age of enlightnment
I LOVED reading this book.
I loved the Bohemian lifestyle in Paris at the time. I was amazed how Lee was a lost soul trying to experience herself in Paris alone . Her loneliness led her to various experiences that eventually connected her to the Art world. She seemed to fall into it naturally.
I loved her relationship to Man (a famous photographer); and her insecurity with regard to her own creativity. I enjoyed following her internal struggles while growing as a person as well as an artist. Fascinating also was her personal development to prove her independence, which led her to finally leave Man.
Thirty years later, she questions the worth of her action for having left Man. He had stolen from her credit she had earned, because he claimed that she was his possession. NOW, meeting him all these years later (she dying of cancer and he in a wheelchair) at an exhibit of his work that she had put together, she asks herself whether leaving him- what seemed so important and so clear to her then- was worth it after all.
This is a good read for anyone who struggles with dependence and interdependence issues in relationships. There is much food for thought.
