Great little radio..uk legal PMR446 freq & power right out of the box.
Pre-programmed with uk/European PMR446 frequency channels 1 to 16. 500mw the legal limit for PMR power output.
By default these are also preprogrammed with ctcss squelch enabled, so you will need a programming cable if you want to use these to communicate with other radios. Or be able to programme the other radios to the correct ctcss code.
If you don’t know what that means and just want to use a pair (or more) of these together, they’ll work fine together.
If you have other cheap PMR radios, you might need to step through any privacy code they have to let the signal get through.
Very small, good battery life and good range, a was also amazed by the quality of the audio.
If you do want to programme them, You’ll need the software ( ask the seller) and a programming cable.. kenwood/baofeng type. Mine came with the radios.
Currently the free ‘chirp’ doesn’t recognise this radio, but I guess it might soon. But the seller provided a download link to the rt22 programming software, and it did the trick.
It is (as far as I can tell, identical to the rt22, zeadio, and won KD-c1.
I have also a pair of the 2w zeadio version. Which programmes happily as a rt22 in chirp. I guess this radio the 622 Identifies itself differently, as chirp doesn’t like it.
The retevis programming swr is marked up for the rt22, and does what you would expect.
Allows setting of 16 channels TX and RX frequency (separately for repeater use etc) also both ctcss and dcs coded squelch tones/codes. Separate codes are configurable for both TX and RX.
Scanning enable/skip flags are configurable for each channel.
Vox enable and sensitivity as well as squelch sensitivity are also configurable from the rt22 programming software.
As with most of these type of radio, acceptable frequencies appear to be selectable across the entire 400mhz band with some overlap into the 300 and 500mhz bands.
Certainly, 70cm repeater use. PMR(at 500mw low power) and U.K. business lite frequencies work ok on my tests.
The software also allows for wide or narrow FM bandwidth if required, and selection of high or low power, per channel.
I was able to open 70cm repeaters from well over 10miles away.
But just remember that for PMR use, 500mw low power should be used. Which is plenty for the beach, park around the house garden park etc.. (depending on the terrain)
This pair are for my grandson, he often uses my other radios, but at least these will keep him legal, and more secure than the basic PMR handhelds as I can put them on business lite freq I have a licence for.
No scrambling option in these, just ctcss/dcs ‘privacy’ filters.
All in all great little radios.
