Cerwin-Vega LW-10. Get Your Bass and Save Your $$
It's very easy to spend lots of money for a sub to get that deep bass sound. More tricky, however, is finding good output and depth at a more moderate price. The LW series from Cerwin-Vega fill this niche perfectly. Quality surround material, heavy magnets, and cast frames produce accurate bass. A strong amplifier and tuned port provide significant spl for the dollar spent. This subwoofer is a great value, and will stomp all the inexpensive cubes on sale now at the big box stores. Granted, you can get big bass out of a small cube, but at nowhere near the price point that Cerwin-Vega offers. Buy this, and spend the extra money on a better/cleaner amp/receiver, or find a better sounding DVD or CD player. Recommended!

Don't waste your hard earned dollars on junky little HTIB (Home Theater In the Box) garbage at your local big-box store. Especially don't waste your money on plasticky sound-bars. Get Real.

Solid Bookshelf/Rear design; attractive cherry finish.

So: These Polk Audi 45B Cherry speakers must be judged against speakers selling for the same price point. Here, they do well. Especailly at the clearance price that Polk Audio features in the eBay store, they present solid value. Attractive design that will work for either a smaller system with a subwoofer for the bedroom or office, or as serving as rear speakers in a 5.1 or more home theater application. The cherry design looks good and packing was protective. They are a high-efficiency design, so a decent 35 to 60 watt receiver or amp will do. Like any speaker, amp choice will help a lot. Your $100 big-box receiver isn't going to reproduce as well as, say, a Denon, Onkyo, NAD or up-scale Yamaha setup. If you're sporting McIntosh or big ticket electronics; you're not looking at these anyhow. Electronics do matter. Paired with a decent 10" subwoofer, a clean sounding amp or receiver, a turntable, the 45Bs will do just fine in a simple album/record listening station. For a person trying to meet a budget, they will work nicely. Trying these days to obtain a decent system for under a grand is a challenge. These Polks' will help you get there.
