I Didn't Know How Much I'd Love "Alt Country"
I saw American Aquarium live in 2023 and became an immediate fan. They fill the meaningless void of modern country with lyrics that tell an impactful story in about 3-4 minutes. Disclaimers that Lamentations was too "political" doesn't make sense - they represent a significant chunk of the American population and it's represented humbly and with contrition where it (politics) surfaces at all. Musically it's got that comfortable country beat and steel guitar, but lyrically it rises far above. Sometimes I feel like this is what you'd get if Bruce Springsteen had been a country artist instead of a rock star. BTW I mean that as a big compliment.

A Festival of Music Styles *not just punk*
As the key follow-up to "London's Calling" this album showed how The Clash kept expanding their musical boundaries. It could be in the genre "World Music" and I think a great many people have never tasted The Clash because they were called a "punk rock" band early on. It's also a snapshot in time of what the socio-political issues of the day were (circa 1980). As Joe Strummer said, they "write songs about the news, not love...love has pretty much been covered." Some reviews I've seen mark down for extending the album to triple (original 3 vinyl discs) but there's a good story behind it - a battle against Columbia label. The Clash also forfeited serious royalties to keep the price down for their fans. Admittedly, there is some recycling of earlier tunes by the time you get the last 6 of the 36 tracks, but many artists tack on "bonus" material that are alternative recordings of earlier cuts. Highly recommend this to any and all music lovers; you don't need to like punk to love The Clash!
