Joan Osborne, The Great....
From songs that are spiritually uplifting, to the insanely poignant... her voice is truly evocative, as is the music which accompanies them. And she conveys all effortlessly ... I once watched her sing a classic Motown song, live, "Heatwave", and have been hooked ever since... but time before then I had heard a song called "one of us" ... a pop-rock song ... mainstream, and non-mainstream. all at once... a song, unique and intriguing, stops one, as one asks a mighty question ... a scary one... and it has etched in my mind ever since ... there have been times the words of the song would come to me even as all around was unrelated, and there have been times I would be listening to other singers, yet "One of us" would somehow weave its way in and replace the other song... and this album, Relish, touches very much on the spiritual, lost love, painful love, and the healing and growth from it.
