compact and clear introduction
Just that really – it's compact, clear and quite charming in its attention to detail. It's probably a bit basic for anyone really into sailing, but for anyone with a more ordinary day-to-day interest in learning knots, it's a lovely little book.

Good replacement remote
Perfectly good replacement device, as good as my original panasonic remote, which stopped working for unknown reasons. Reasonable build quality, not cheap and nasty as I'd feared it might be for such a low price. Buttons are responsive and, best of all, it just worked straight off as soon as I'd inserted batteries, with no need to programme or sync anything.

Recommended to anyone with no plumbing expertise or training at all
Very thorough, clear explanations, wide-ranging. The text is very clearly written, and with a sense of humour. There's a good range of illustrations, though some of the photos could have been better lit (quite a few are a little bit murky, but they're ok, they're functional), and photo captions would help make it clearer sometimes exactly what's being illustrated. I imagine it may be a bit basic for anyone with any plumbing training or significant experience, but I have very little, so I think it'll be very useful. I'm a fairly expert general DIYer, but haven't done a lot of plumbing and I'm wanting to install a new downstairs loo, and I find myself thinking it can't really be all that hard if only I could get just a little bit of advice to explain a few things and point me in the right direction. This book seems to promise to do just that. So, here goes...
…ok, so here's an update a few months later. Downstairs loo now complete, and this book was invaluable for the project. Copper pipework, soil pipe connector, isolating valves, Grohe concealed cistern, back-to-wall toilet, plus hand basin and mixer tap – all installed and functioning perfectly. Couldn't have done it without this book. Highly recommended : )
