I found the story to be hard to follow and not engaging at all.

Serious physics for billiards
This is a book about pool/billiard physics by a physicist. There are many equations and derivations of equations. Marlow also did multiple experiments to fill in some of the physical details and check some of the assumptions. My only complaint is that Marlow spends too much effort on some minor points that have little to do with actual play.
