good item with difficulties

This product is strong and sturdy. The problem is that it is very difficult to open up. Neither my husband nor I could get it up high enough to reach the stay. Our 6ft 4in son eventually managed to do it with my husband holding the base part very firmly. Now it is up we afraid to close it as we cannot rely on some one else to help us each time we need it open.
