A Useful Guide
The book functions as a sort of text book; the writing style is occasionally dry and the footnotes often profuse. The intended audience appears to be people who know a little about the operation and structure of the art business and, perhaps as collectors or simply from curiosity, want to know more. From that point of view it’s useful and on occasion fascinating. It’s unlikely, however, that art business professionals will find much in the book that they do not already know.
The separate chapters are written by separate contributors and so vary in tone from an emphasis on econometrics (which is a recurring analysis in the book) to anecdotal snapshots. Because the book is separated into twelve individual chapters, however, it is easy enough to skip over material that is outside the reader's interest.

Be aware: this is one of 5 Perfection of Music CD's
I didn't read the listing well - thought I was getting 3 CD's. My error. This CD is fine and a good introduction to some lesser-known French composers.

The Campbell section is fine; the Roberts section is confusing, often incomprehensible.
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich Richard Roberts wrote three-quarters or more of the book; Joseph Campbell wrote the other one-quarter, though his section is probably less than that much. Mr Roberts had some interesting ideas to convey, but he didn't sort them out or present them with any real clarity. At times he piled together apparently disassociated observations or facts then drew a conclusion from them that to me did not seem warranted or, at times, relevant. The use of "therefore" in his pages (or similar words) had to do a lot of heavy lifting. I was disappointed with the text and displeased with it.
Joseph Campbell's contribution seemed hasty but not otherwise flawed.
