The Rolling Stones - Bridges to Babylon 1998 (DVD, 1998)

Better with age and still roll'n
This is the Best concert film I've seen of the Stones, by this time they know exactly which instrument to use for each song, and they're still young enough to have great vitality. The recording was great too because you really hear the vocals and instrumentation strongly and the roar of the crowd is kept at a low which wasn't always the case back in the day (70's 80's), and the auditory rewards are awesome! Sympathy is probably the best I've ever heard it (aside from perhaps only the master recording--cd record--), and Gimme Shelter was also the best I've heard them do in concert much in the same regard as Sympathy, and Lisa Fischer's work on it proved to be a real vocal gem--great voice and power not to mention sense of mysticism. Keith Richards' guitar playing is really great in all the songs but truly so in Sympathy and Gimme Shelter. Wild Horses is something they don't always do and it was really cool to have them play it (here along with Dave Mathews of the Dave Mathews Band), a song I always thought was a great closing or end of the record or evening song because of the unique relaxing slow melody which is different from many of their songs--even though it's around the middle of the show here. Visually, the concert was stunning and those mechanical bridges that start reaching out was really neat, and they way they ran off the stage to take a break, with Keith gathering up all the roses as he scampered off was really cool! The Big blue eye above the stage had a nice presence as well. Most of their real-famous or popular songs were played here so there should be something for everyone who loves the Stones or who just likes enjoy some great concert rock from a group that did get better and better with age.
