Young adult or adult?

When Leni's father inherits some land, she finds her poverty-stricken family uprooted from Seattle to the beautiful and unforgiving Alaskan wilderness. Not only is living without electricity and plumbing, while having to hunt for your meals something of a learning experience, but the long, dark Alaskan winters don't do much for the disposition of Leni's abusively drunken dad. He finds himself irrationally at odds with the leader of the town, while Leni starts up a Romeo-and-Juliet relationship with the town leader's son. Tons of plot go on (Murder! Comas! Cancer!) but I found Kristin Hannah didn't quite resolve the young adult aspects of her tale with the "adult" incidents.

Hard to care about this

This book is about the history of the Los Angeles Central Library. Before opening this book, ask yourself the following question: Do I give a damn? A lot of the book is about the library's 1984 fire and follows the life of the main arson suspect, and Orlean doesn't come to any conclusions. Most of the time, you're having a hard time working up interest what she bring up (McDonnell Douglas using space simulation chambers to dry the books' wet pages, etc.).

A necessary purchase, alas

I wear these whenever I find myself leaving my condominium to do curbside pickup at a local restaurant. I feel a great sense of relief when I'm back home with the air conditioning and I tear them off.
