Solid, and well-researched
Marc Ferro is a well-known French historian and a very talented writer. He knows the subject of Nicholas II and the Russian revolution well, having written other fine works on the subject. This book is another well-researched undertaking that shows his command of the material and his thoughtful portrayal of the Czar and the tragic end of his reign and his life. If there is anything to be critical about in it, it may be that a lot of time is spent on other characters and events, leaving less time on Nicholas than one would assume, given the title. However the book is very good and well worth the money if you are digging deeper into the subject and time period. If you are only reading one book on the subject, however, I would stick with Massie’s Nicholas and Alexandra.

Best of Buck book set nicely and affordably produced.
Reader’s Digest produced an excellent 2 volume set of Pearl Buck’s best work. Great reading in a very nicely designed set of books.
