Buddy Guy says... "Can you spell GRAMMY !???"
2 von 2 finden das hilfreich I have been a Buddy Guy fan for many years... my first inspiration was the "I Was Walking Through the Woods" LP back in the '70s. His sharp, frenetic, angular attack grabbed me by the throat, shook me, and I was hooked for life... I've since, joyfully followed his career over the years. While his "Damn Right I got the Blues!" album grabbed him a Grammy... "Living Proof", in my opinion, kicks things up an even bigger notch from that point, and has been touted by others as his best album in years and possibly of the decade.
I just played the CD for a friend of mine and his first remark was "This guy is HOW old !? Nobody his age plays like this !" It's true people: Buddy Guy is a living legend and has outdone himself once again... Not only is his guitar onslaught as manic and spine-chilling as ever... but the entire set is both balanced and enriched by classic tracks like the Gospel inspired "Stay Around a Little Longer" (a deeply soulful duet with B.B. King) and "This is Where The Blues Begins" (with Carlos Santana).
I'm a total skeptic when it comes to rave reviews: both in movies, music, books, etc. And in this case, without sounding too corny; this album is truly "Living Proof" that Buddy Guy is at the top of his game... and as the lyrics of the aforementioned 'Stay Around a Little Longer' state " We've come a long way... but we're a long way from done..." Amen, brother.

Mojo... Almost Working
Overall, I have found multi-artist DVD's from the same genre, too often throwing styles together that come off better in singular presentation. So is the case here. As well, the production on this outing is at times awkward and seems out of natural chronological order, as far as how it was originally recorded... abruptly switching from music to impromtu inter-artist banter via off time editing. The 'flow' is like that of a snare drum bouncing down a flight of unevenly built stairs, at times. That said, it STILL is great to see this many legendary blues greats enjoying each others company and playing, at one time.
Personally, I bought it because it includes the frenetic presence of Mike Bloomfield, who unfortunately ended up on film less than any other artist in attendence. Junior Wells' top notch
talents were enjoyable and noteworthy, as well. The audio mixing is pretty uneven at times... at best, its more of a casual look at some of the genre's top artists jamming and having fun... which is fine if you don't expect much more than that. More careful and thoughtful handling would have improved it greatly.

This glass is 3/4 full and 1/4 empty
Great movie... up until the guitar 'thrown down' that Ralph Macchio has with Steve Vai at the niteclub. Perhaps it wasn't corny back when the movie was made, but man... what a let down... it ruined what could have been a stellar, mainstream release about a guy's heart-felt, ethusastic search to find the true roots of the Blues. A search for the Blues turned into a heavy metal shred battle... Leave it to Hollywood to mess things up once again. They never could get it right when it comes to music.
