Brilliant, exciting performances
Listeners should not expect 21st Century sound quality from a 1950s recording, but it should be noted RCA's Living Stereo issues were among the best of the era. Remasterings have brought even greater clarity.
For decades this particular recording and performance was held in the highest regard, and as with so many classics of the time, the fame slides by dint of age and successor issues (not necessarily better). Kondrashin's performances of the Capriccio Italien (listen to the brass opening!), and Capriccio Espagnol are in my view peerless, Passionately Russian to the core.
At the prices available, it's something of a steal.
