MDC Rock Island Box Car

DCC for RDCs
I recently obtained a set of N Scale Kato Rock Island RDCs and wanted to make them DCC as soon as possible. As far as I know the Digitrax DN143K2 is the only decoder available for these trains. Installation on the first one was a bit of a battle. But once I figured out how the contact strips went back in the second one was a breeze. The lights were reversed when I put it on my layout but Digitrax is aware of this and they have the CV's listed on their website to correct the problem. Digitrax also has a couple of entries on the DN143K2 info page for hiding the wires inside the trains.

Bachmann Evolved
This is the fourth or fifth Bachmann engine with DCC i've purchased over the past few years and i have to say that Bachmann has come a long way with their trains. The DCC engines they are offering these days run very smooth, maybe a tad bit noisy, but way quieter than their previous DC versions for sure. The F7A+B set i purchased is a nice running and very enjoyable set.
