Reference book for Hopi Jewelry
I am a collector or Hopi jewelry and I do not know what took me so long to get this book. Initially I bought the book as a reference for hallmarks. I find it to be comprehensive. A cross reference of hallmarks by type is convenient.
Beyond the hallmarks, the book is a wonderful history of Hopi silver work, how it came to be differentiated from other Native American jewelry, and eventually earn the respect and demand of collectors around the world. Also, the book highlights the life and work of some of the most influential Hopi jewelers and how their style influenced the craft. The book gives a good sense of Hopi life in the past and today and delves into the origin of the many designs used by the Hopi in jewelry making.
"Hopi Jewelry" is a must read and permanent reference for anyone who admires or collects this wearable art.
