An excellent biography of a remarkable man, with great detail and many wonderful insights into his life and times.

Title is quaint, but confusing, sugggesting a Southern regional writer, when he is so much more.
of the finest books I've ever read. The writing is beautifully wrought. I was so impressed when I first read it in 1991, I immediately bought 5 more copies to share with friends, and since then, I have bought and given away at least 10 more. I'm still at it, because this book has such power and grace that it deserves wide appreciation and will last for as long as great writing is valued.
