TERRIFIED in thought!!! Must Read!! Positive Outcome.
Two months ago, in buying my forth Mac system I was seriously questioning the MP4,1 duel processor tower compared to the MP5,1 systems. Having a Computer Science degree and recently retired from teaching math, I was TERRIFIED in thought and had a hard time moving forward. Do I even try to delid my MP4,1 CPU's or pay someone 300 to 500 dollars extra to have a low-end processor delid plus the cost of the two processors?? Thats if I could even find a reliable person to not scam, or electronically short out my processors!!! There are a lot of Wanatabes on the web. Having spent many countless hours in reviewing the online web videos and in reading one forum nightmare to the next, including articles suggesting, “Don't just buy two processors” if you are trying to delid them yourself for the first time. My nightmare vision is tossing a few hundred-dollars in to the trash bin. Mistakes are a plenty as you can imagine from roasting the CPU, as it turns in to a rainbow of colors due to the high misguided heat source, to fracturing the processor board in a machine made vise and wondering why the CPU lid is still attached to the six connected dangling parts. If you do a web search of roasted delid processors you will quickly appreciate this vendor’s services. The final Apple systems cost, it's availability, expandability, and my world connecting with colleagues I continue to work with, so in a nutshell we all work with our Mac OS X systems now commonly referred to as macOS’s. I knew in buying an older MP4,1 my additional time and effort to upgrade the firmware shall be part of my purchase strategy. I needed an eight-core system at a reasonable price. That was my overall goal and how to get there was my biggest challenge. I already have a six-core 2010 MP system, a 2009 MacBook Pro, an iOS mini 4, and an ASUS Windows 10 laptop system to work with as I continue my work and hobbies. I was fighting internally with the overall costs of the cheese grader, and kept asking the question should I... Should I continue to compare the cost in buying the 2009 MP4,1 ($$) plus upgrading the duel processors to 3.46MHz ($$) plus a three monitor setup GPU ($$) plus 96MB's of RAM @1333 MHz ($$$) plus the cost in delidding the CPU's ($$$$???) plus shipping ($/2) and so on and so on. Verses buying a 2012 MP5,1 already setup with duel processors ($$$$$) (no delidding the CPU's) plus 96MB's of RAM @1333 MHz ($$$) plus a three monitor setup GPU ($$) plus shipping ($/2). During that time period I was frustrated as the price for each system continued to increase with every new bid. What I thought was a $300 final bid escalated to $450 plus free shipping. Every month the Mac Pro towers are reaching new highs as Apple continues to push back their launch date on the new non-trash can Mac Pro tower or something like it. Many of us at this point must outweigh the performance gains over costs. It's not a simple matter to just throw money into an Apple legacy non-supported system and have Apple again upgrade the POSIX/UNX kernel then add AFS to the mix. The older Mac Pro systems are very well made and easy to upgrade compared to the high priced 6,1 systems. So in closing and my decisions made, I cannot begin to express how instrumental this vendor was in my decision making activities. My MP4,1 with my firmware upgrade to 5,1, the GPU'S, 96MB's of RAM, and my two processors to be installed very soon, running macOS 10.13.4 is everything I desire for what I intend to do and within my budget range. This guy is very knowledgeable, informative and kept me from setting my hair on fire. Read his information sheet, you will agree he is a well rounded professional through and through. When you see your returned CPU you will take a second look, and fully appreciate your decision and his work. He will test your processors before doing any work and again after delidding the CPU's. I'm very happy to have met him as an eBay vendor for he has saved me a few hundred dollars and hours of additional work. My final MP4,1 cost (5,1 updated) with everything mentioned including the two delid 3.46 CPU's is at $710. Well worth it, and this guy helped me get there!! My Sincere Thanks
