Outstanding pens

These are really nice pens for a price not much over what you pay for junk disposable ones. The clips stay put well, and the pen feels great in the hand. Hefty yet streamlined. A+

Great rod, marginal reel

I've been using Leichi products since before they adopted the MaxCatch brand label, and I'm a real believer -- I've enjoyed superb tackle at very reasonable prices and felt like I was in on a great secret. This rod is pretty consistent with that view -- a really nice 3wt that's tons of fun to fish with. Now, a 3wt reel is mostly just a line holder, and at the price I didn't really have great hopes anyway, but this reel is pretty shaky. I've got some of this company's nicer fly reels, and they are awesome equipment for a half or a third or even a quarter what many other companies would charge for comparable pieces. This isn't one of them -- I guess there's a limit to how low you can go. It works, but the adjustment is pretty rough and inconsistent, and if the drag gets wet the resistance changes and it starts to grate. So ... at some point I might swap out the reel for something nicer. If I were doing it again I might just buy this rod by itself and a better reel. In other notes - the company does stand behind their stuff, I've experienced it firsthand.
