The two versions of "Cloud Atlas"
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich The source novel on which the Wachowski film "Cloud Atlas" is based has a different structure and different overall tone than the movie. Instead of being interlaced scene by scene, the six very different, interconnected stories in the book are told first in chronological order, and then later in reverse chronological order, so that the story of Adam Ewing begins and ends the book while the tale of Zachry Bailey is the only one presented as a single piece. The reincarnation theme is limited to a single character in the book and is not connected the same way as in the movie. I honestly consider the movie to be an improvement on the book, because it does connect a lot more characters through the six historical contexts than the book does. The movie is also far more hopeful about whether humanity ultimately chooses civilization or savagery. If I'd only read the book and the movie didn't exist, I would have given it no more than three stars.
