Good book on Shay Locomotive pictures.

Excellent photos of Shay, Heisler, and Climax steam engines. These were all rounded up for scrap metal during WW2 and only a few survive today. There are also several excellent shots of high wooden trestle bridges, both complete and under construction. All photos were taken in the great Northwest, local around Seattle during the boom days of timbering the local giant trees.

These are nice pictures, but I wasn't thrilled by the posed content.

Since I am not a member of the Kinsey Family, I hold no misty feeling towards the family portraits. I feel these should have been more privately kept. Of interest are the outdoor settings showing the logging camps, equipment, and homes. As usual, the technology of the times was glossed over and hidden, while people were posed like they just caught a record trout. Some pictures come across rather disturbing i.e. "This is the largest tree in Washington State... and this is how many roof shingles we made out of it." This book stands with reality frozen in time of places, attitudes, and dreams laid out. It was a simpler, more barbaric time in our past. The stories sometimes fly off the pages in the subtleties the photographer often misses. When you look closer and see the missing fingers and flamboyant disregard for safety (just for a snazzy picture), one must understand this was a different reality than today.

This helps out a lot with PC Gaming -- Two big toes up

This basically emulates an additional keyboard with only three keys. The included CD ROM has a program that sets up what pedal equates to what key (or string of keys). I set this up on a different, old, non-networked laptop since I'm paranoid about installing stuff on my high-end gaming systems. It works when plugged into any computer as previously defined since it's all hardware after setup. I found it easier to kick off my shoes so I can actually feel when I'm pushing the pedals when using them. The assembly is a bit small for my size so I'm pushing on the outer edges of the left/right pedals for game steering control. I see this as a significant upgrade in game control. I could do without it, but the game wouldn't be as fun. I suffer no disabilities, but I can see where this may be VERY helpful to many types of injury or ailments. I rate it - 'Two Big Toes Up' ... hmmm.. put that in the title.
