A Revelation
This work is a much-needed slap in the face to most modern historians who are working in the field of medieval military studies. The "knightly code" was a constant concern to medieval men-at-arms, even when considering things like ruses, raids and the like. I adored it.

Needs to be re-examined.
Delbruck is generally dismissed with rolled eyes and a smug grin these days, but people who see no value in his work are simply slinging bovine excrement. The reason that this work is important is that it covers dozens of barely-known battles and engagements that are constantly overshadowed by monstrous battles like Crecy etc. Supports the now-dismissed idea that knights (especially in the 12th century) preferred to leave footsoldiers and archers out of the mix whenever possible. Needs to be re-examined with fresh eyes and without the central idea that all warriors of the medieval period were charlatans motivated simply by greed and unquenchable pyromania.
