Absolutely necessary.
The insight given by Bill & Babe is invaluable. Truly a must read for anyone who has any interest in "Band of Brothers" or WW II.

Will not fit a high shelf receiver such as Ruger SR556
Woops. An o-ring around the front hinge and a soft foam ear plug under the rear pin are much cheaper and do a fine job of tightening things up. Especially when the accu wedge does not fit in your receiver.

Rugged.
This mount is heavier than most, but I can not imagine it failing.
