probably the best spy show ever

Grim tales of the (British) Secret Intelligence Service, whose agents face both foreign enemies and internal quarrels – as well as uneven relations with the CIA's London branch. Produced on a shoestring but with superb dialogue, rich in gallows humour. Set 1 contains seven of the twenty episodes.

probably the best spy show ever

Neil Burnside, Director of Operations in the Secret Intelligence Service, sends his two best agents on unglamorous missions, while at home he sometimes cooperates and sometimes feuds with the CIA's top agent in London, as well as with his own superiors. «The Sandbaggers» was made in 1978–80 on a shoestring, and was never popular, perhaps because the grimness is not relieved with visual excitement; yet the writing, rich in dark humour, has few rivals.
