Refreshing movie of American frontier life
Outstanding low-key western about community rather than individual heroics - beautiful example of Jacques Tourneur's re-working of Hollywood cliches. People are more complex than just being "good" or "bad". Soft, subtle colour and subdued performances from Dana Andrews and Susan Hayward.

A re-discovered gem with Ingrid Bergman and Hitchcock at their best
a much-neglected film - of great interest to Australians given its setting in our convict era and its origin in a best-selling Australian novel. Ingrid Bergman has a challenging role and rises to great heights in an amazing 8-minute intensely emotional monologue. it's a very good copy of the film too: very high quality, with colour very well reflecting the Technicolor original. I'm very pleased.
