Only one of the best Hollywood films every made
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich This is the 3rd disc version of Casablanca that I own, but my first Blu-ray. It holds up exceptionally well on my 65" Ultra HD 4K screen. I love Casablanca, and have for years. I love Bogart. I love Bergman. I love Rains. I love the supporting cast made up of many European expatriates. I love cinematographer, Arthur Edeson's, lighting. I love the story of sacrifice, renewed love, and redemption. And I love Max Steiner's score. It's very true that this was a lucky film. Rick's line that "destiny has taken a hand" may seem a tad forced in the film, but that line could have been said of the film itself. It wasn't only the brilliant casting of the leads or the last-minute edits to the script or even the veracity provided by those numerous European expats. History was being made in North Africa as the film was being shot, and Jack Warner urged producer, Hal Wallis, to "go faster" to capitalize on the war's headlines. I enjoyed the commentary extras on this 70th Anniversary Edition, especially the commentary by the late Roger Ebert. The commentary by film historian, Rudy Behlmer, isn't nearly as good, but there are still a few historical nuggets to be learned there. I had seen Lauren Bacall's introduction of the film on one of my previous DVDs; it's too bad her intro couldn't be reissued in HD though. I most enjoyed the small booklet from the set that showed content from several production notes. And there's the mini poster--although the folds in it make me wince. I highly recommend this set for any Casablanca or Bogart fan or for those who just revere classic film done amazingly well.

Wanted for a Victorian-era display
I wanted a train engine and passenger compartment for a Victorian-era Sherlock Holmes display. I plan to conceal the Harry Potter-specific details with my own stickers. Building the set was fun! Thanks!

For one of my Sherlock Holmes dioramas
He'll likely be Doctor Watson. Thanks!
