Compelling, intelligent, sensitively observed. Beautifully written.
850 + pages, so plenty to get your teeth into. I needed to make notes as to who was who, then it became easier to follow the narrative. The action is all presented through the eyes and thoughts of Cromwell, so the reader becomes close to him. Reading required a special effort of unhurried patience on my part, but if willing to give it, the rewards are rich.

It's OK, not wonderful.
In some of the crosswords, the boxes to write the letters in are far too small. Beginners of Italian language can do without this extra difficulty when trying to write foreign words and spell them correctly.
