Not family friendly. That's my story and I'm schticking to it.
0 von 2 finden das hilfreich I bought this after reading glowing reviews saying it was the best baseball movie of all time, yada yada yada. It is unrated for a reason. Had it been rated, it would have overloaded the FILTH sensor. Should have paid more attention to who and what produced this film, as this kind of trash can only come from a so-called comedian. I won't even mention ethnicity because it would only be redundant having already mentioned "comedian." Did I mention I haven't even watched the film? I ran the subtitles through a word counter and the total F you's, S**t and d*mn's were far too frequent to consider playing this movie in polite company. Oh, I bought this for my father. Good thing I checked it before wrapping it. It is a shame, really. Barry Pepper is one of my favorites (Saving Private Ryan, Snow Walker), but this flick is a total miss. Never, never, never, will I trust a movie with that foul-mouthed twerp Billy Crystal's name anywhere on it. What a loser.

Adventurous, and classically poetical.
This film has a right to boast. It is totally worthy of Jack London fans, and anyone who appreciates lyrical phrasing will enjoy this romanticized telling of the great Alaskan gold rush. While it may not be a runaway box office hit, it fulfills the essentials of great story-telling in such a way that it will endure for generations. Critical literature should receive the script as it would the work of Twain, London, or Melville. It is honestly that good.

MAGNUM STILL DELIVERS.
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich Magnum, the 7th season, was written to tie up all loose ends in the series and was purposed to be the final season. The 8th season was a big "thank you" present from the actors to the fans, who just could not get enough and were screaming for an encore. Rightfully so. There have been few shows to match Magnum's appeal. There has been some mention about the picture quality on the 7th season. There is an explanation which has nothing to do with bitrates or how dvds are authored in general. At the end of the 6th season, some bean-counter network executive decided that in order to save money, the network would no longer use film in shooting episodes. They would instead "film" and edit shows entirely on videotape and the viewing audience would supposedly never know the difference, since everyone watched these shows on small, square boxes. What a nitwit. Even after the lessons learned about residuals from syndication, this numbskull could not imagine future earning potential. [At least some bright bulb decided to not record over the tape "to save money!"] And even though the consumer videotape and dvd markets were far away, first time viewers of these episodes (and all other series across the board) were disappointed in the drop in picture quality which COULD be seen on our little square boxes with vaccuum-tube technology. Nevertheless, the Magnum stories and acting are top notch. Oh how I wish the original cast members would come together for another season. Maybe Thomas has finished writing his detective manual and is more of a novelist than private eye now. Of course Higgins is gone now, but the doberman's are everpresent through their descendants. T.C. probably has a fleet of tour 'copters and flies more for fun than necessity. Rick is fully "retired" but operating something semi-legitimately of course... probably owns a private security firm or such like. Bring them all back or at least pay a hack writer to do a paperback book series. Even the 8th season encore left us all wanting more.
