NOAC Quality is in retrograde
Over time, one would think that emulation and picture quality on these devices would gradually improve. I've had a Retron3 for something like 4 or 5 years, but since I really only use it as a backup NES player, I thought it was time to upgrade to a smaller and newer device.
I... I don't even know where or how to begin. For starters, the picture quality is very poor, with a softer image and much worse color reproduction than I've seen on a clone in a long time. It also has severe video sync issues with my LCD TV, which means the video will blink and tear in response to a very bright background. The sound reproduction is also on the low end of accuracy to the original. I didn't have quite the same problems with the cartridge connector as others, but it could just be I'm used to the tighter fit from previous experience with other clones. The real story here is mainly the picture quality; it is so soft, so washed out, and plays so poorly with modern televisions.
Even for the low price, I don't understand this shocking dip in quality in a modern NES clone compared to ones I've used in the past. And this is the year that these companies are going to be upgrading to HDMI versions of these machines! I shudder to think what that is going to be like, but I guess we'll see once they actually come out. In the mean time, this little box makes for a very poor replacement for, well, anything. And it looks so cool, too, which is why this is such a bummer! Honestly, it looks better than even the pictures would suggest. I guess it will remain on the shelf as an attractive paper weight.

Surprisingly good!
2 von 2 finden das hilfreich Since my new gaming TV did not do well with analog composite video signals from old gaming systems, I felt the need to at least experiment with one of these new HD console clones. I kept my expectations in check, since this is far cheaper than the top-of-the-line Retro AVS or NT Mini. It has to be said, I was genuinely blown away! The picture over HDMI is super sharp, and there is no significant input lag that I can measure (do remember to set your TV for 4:3 display though -it automatically outputs a widescreen picture). I will be putting my original NES back on the shelf, because this has now become my main way to play NES games on my main TV. This is almost certainly the best clone console I've ever bought, and I really look forward to HD clone versions of the SNES and Genesis now too.
