A solid effeort by a master of the genre
You won't find nearly enough information on the web about Evelyn Subley Lampman, but she was a writer of remarkable range and capability. Specializing in children's books, and especially historical fiction, she also turned out some science fiction, science fantasy, and ordinary fantasy. An autobiography on her early writing career in Oregon radio is worth seeking out both as a story of the writer, and a really amusing look at early broadcast history.
Three Knocks on the Wall is set in small town Oregon during WWI, and captures the historical voice of the period perfectly; I could hear my wife's Edwardian era grandmother reminiscing through every paragraph. There are echoes here of To Kill A Mockingbird, but they are subtle and not intrusive.
The story is sweet, the narrative character charming, and the foibles and limited perspective of the era and locale are captured perfectly-- as well as the mitigating effects of people of character--who have always existed, and always moderated the social narrowness of their time and place.
A good book for home schooling, with any number of historical hooks to use in exploring the early 20th century. A good read for any child of appropriate age in interest-- and worth a look by any adult with a taste for the gentle and exploratory.

Excellent type specimen
Crystals in my specimen were well formed, discrete, and uniformly colored with an intense amethyst purple. Crystal surfaces were clear of post-amethyst deposits that might have dulled or marred the surfaces; the crystal faces were clean, sharp, ang highly reflective.
A beautiful piece.
