AN EXCELLENT TITLE FOR A BOOK THEMED AROUND THE GAME OF CHESS.
I HAVE READ ALL THE BEN HOPE BOOKS BY SCOT MARIANI AND ENJOY HIS STYLE, THE VARIETY OF ' THEMES' THAT HE COMES UP WITH, ESPECIALLY THE CHESS GAMES IN THE 'WHITE KNIGHT', AND HIS WAY OF THINKING. EACH PLOT IS UNIQUE.

A little off-puting and misleading although Tombland is a district described in the content.
I love the Sansom .books. For anyone interested in Medieval History this is a MUST read. The historical notes at the back of the book are extremely interesting together with the Bibliography. Although I had previously heard of the 'theft of common land' I had not realised the extent of the hardship this wrought on Yeomen and tenants in the loss of their livelihoods, and I had never heard of Kett's Rebellion which I now want to research further. This book certainly gives food for thought. I had read my copy and so enjoyed it that II bought a second copy to send to friends in Norfolk for Christmas.
