Children of The Sun-Various Artist Transatlantic Label
Having become a teenager during the late 1960's I have always had an affinity for the era's main musical output, which was "progressive Rock". This double album provides an insight into the period between 1968-1973 by showcasing the artists on the Transatlantic label, the original albums for these artists would probably cost you in excess of £1,000.00, thus this is an ideal medium to enjoy this music. The artists on Transatlantic were closer to Folk than Rock hence there is a more whimsical mix here although still fitting comfortably under the Progressive label. Highlights include: Stray; who have two tracks from their debut album, Peter Barden's, who's music was much "heavier" than his later releases and Alan Hull(Lindisfarne) An excellent collection of a great era in music

British Blues Treasure
Jo Ann Kelly came through the mid sixties british Blues boom and flourished although she kept herself away from the mainstream, this is an excellent collection of her output from her ealy record in 1964 right through to her last recordings in 1988

Savoy Brown A Step Further
The album title correctly covers this album, while it was their fourth album, it was the first indication that the band were moving away from the traditional blues field and this release can be best described as Blues/Rock...A StepFurther! The first four tracks are studio cuts and feature an exceptional guitar led instrumental "Walking in The Bamboo Grove" & an extended slow blues track "Life One Act Play". "The Savoy Brown Boogie" is the final track on the album and plays for over 22mins, this track was recorded live in London in May 1969 and captures the band in excellent form, with vocalist Chris Youlden taking centre stage, this is one of the most "energetic & atmospheric" live tracks I have ever heard...."Come on now & boogie too". The band were a six piece, which consisted of Kim Simmonds (Guitar) Lonesome Dave (Guitar),Roger Earl (Drums),Tony Stevens (bass) & Bob Hall (Piano), within 12 months the band recorded two more albums with the nucleus of this line up before Roger, Dave & Tony jumped ship and formed Foghat
