Great pedagogical grammar with thorough explanations and sociolinguistic info
This book has proved very helpful. It explains the grammatical concepts in depth, not just brushing the surface.
It is a pedagogical grammar, presented as lessons, and concepts are introduced gradually (rather than going through all nouns at once, all verb conjugations, etc). This is great if you're looking to learn the language from the ground up. If you're looking for a reference grammar, it might be better to get one that presents all areas of the grammar in their logical order, rather than breaking things up into lessons. Personally, I like to have both, so I also bought Serbian: An essential grammar (which is a reference grammar).
I also really appreciate the sociolinguistic commentary at the end. It is very important to understand the sociolinguistic situation of this region!
