External Temperature Controller Review
This controller does indeed work:
- The default temperature hysteresis is a tight 1 degree Centigrade (adjustable up to 15 degrees Centigrade)
- Performs very fast updates of displayed temperature
- Includes a Negative Temperature Coefficient/NTC sensor bulb on a long lead wire
- Includes a reasonably clear one-page diagram & instruction sheet
- Setpoint temperature is relatively easy to change and defaults to human body temperature
This controller can power-manage ANY appliance that is 1000 Volt-Amperes or under. The output controller is limited to 1000 Volt-Amperes of power, regardless of source power in your country. As recommended in the instruction diagram, I installed a slow-blow fuse in the output circuit to protect the output relay contacts against problematic appliances.
The most difficult part of this product was getting the bits and pieces to actually use it - this device is a panel-mounted pure controller without case nor wiring harness. Those are costs one must consider before buying this product - in my country (New Zealand) a small metal enclosure cost NZ$19, a considerable expense of the build.
Although I have not done so yet, it would be a good idea to shrink-tube the sensor with a good 150 millimetres or so of its' lead wire to protect against hot or mildly corrosive liquids. In its' raw state, the sensor should only be used for air temperature measurements, such as for food dehydrators.
Overall, if you don't mind being required to get some extra parts or performing self-assembly, this device works as advertised.
