No frills, solid performance, most useful features
2 von 2 finden das hilfreich After using marine GPS and Loran for years I wondered what a street GPS would be like and bought the 255W. Could not be happier! I has all the functionality you *really* need and no frills. The wide screen is a real plus and the fact that it speaks the street names is a real help (esp in places that still have street name signs). My cell phone's (Motorola Razr)charger works with it too so that's less clutter in the car. I don't use the picture or memory chip features, etc, so I have no opinion. But for common navigation, across town or country, I can't imagine a better system. I broke mine (doesn't like to drink bottle water I guess) and I'll buy another without looking back.

Registering it w/base was PITA
bought it as replacement for existing unit. NO instructions w/unit or Uniden's website for getting it registered with base unit. After days of frustrations found out registration is done by BASE unit (#4096) reaching out to the handset, NOT by this handset finding the base station. Pretty simple: Change up the handset, dig into the menus in the base station and you'll find how to register a handset. Works pretty easy but don't depend on any Uniden documentation and certainly not on the eBay seller.

Easy to setup if you know the key
The hand set was like new but most directions are misleading because they make you think it's done from the *handset*. Getting the base to find the handset is done via the menus in the BASE. Once the handset is changed, you use the menu in the BASE to search and register the new handset, NOT the other way around.
